Exciting News!!!

Dear Newark AC member

The big day is almost here! I am excited to announce that our first club training session at the new YMCA athletics facility on Bowbridge Road will be held on Tuesday 13th November.

Whilst we have discussed logistics with YMCA and will continue to adapt how we operate with them as a club over the coming weeks, the first couple of sessions at the new track are bound to take a little bit of bedding in whilst everyone gets used to the facility. On Tuesday 13th November just plan to arrive at the usual time for your training session, park up and follow the footpath to the ‘signing in’ portakabin by the track. We plan to have as many of the club committee there as possible to help show people around before you get going with your training. Initially the sessions will be principally on the track, but Emma, Stuart and all the coaches are designing a plan to use the long jump, high jump, triple jump and hurdles over the coming weeks.
The Club plan for the winter months will be to hold our Tuesday training sessions at YMCA and our Thursday evenings to continue at The Newark Academy. The principal reason for this is to enable the Sports Hall activities to continue as normal on a Thursday, as well as to use the greater grass area available to us at The Academy for the winter cross-country training. Training session times will continue as usual for each age group at both locations. We also need more qualified first aiders and coaches to be able to operate in split locations safely, so please let Emma (or any of the Committee) know if you would like to help and complete a training course.
Overall, this is a massive step forward for Newark AC. We will have the regular use of one of the most advanced athletic facilities in the area once everything is fully operational, which will help develop our athletes and the sport to an even higher level. Although there is still a lot to be done over the coming months, I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Gareth Bagguley, Emma Jessop, Elaine Mills and Hazel Pond who have done so much work to help get us to this point and to all our coaches for their support and commitment.

Many thanks.
Don Evans, Newark AC Chair
