Gordon Whelbourn Week

Organised by Newark Athletic Club, the event consists of 5 races, run on the Monday to Friday of the week, commencing 7 June 2010. Runners can run as few or as many as they like but those running all 5 races will get a souvenir and be eligible for the Gordon Whelbourn Running Week prizes. The 10k road race, run on the Friday can also be run as an open event, there are separate prizes.
The main objective of the event is to have fun, get a bit fitter and meet new runners as well as commemorate some of the former members of Newark Athletic Club.
Monday – an off road riverside run of around 3 miles from the Britannia Pub at Farndon. Registration is at the pub, where there are also toilets. Why not enjoy a drink in the pub afterwards enjoying the riverside views.

Tuesday – we are off to the home of Newark Athletic Club at the Grove Leisure Centre this evening running on the sportsfield for around 4 miles of off road running. There are toilets and changing at the leisure centre.

Wednesday – an off road run at Devon Park/Sconce Hills of around 4 miles this evening based at the Tom Mann Pavilion accessed off Valley Prospect. Toilets and changing facilities are available there.

Thursday – the social club at Flowserve on Hawton Lane this evening for a 3 mile off road run around Balderton Lake and the Newark to Hawton cycle path. Toilets and changing are available in the pavilion and there is also a bar for a drink afterwards.

Friday – the finale of the week is a 10k road race based at Newark Rugby Club’s ground at Kelham Road on the A617 Newark to Mansfield Road. Toilets and changing are available in the pavilion as well as showers and there is also a bar for a drink afterwards, we would be delighted if you would join us for the prizegivings immediately after the results have been compiled.
