The Midland cross country championships proved a stern test for Newark’s athletes, with long, tough courses and high quality line ups in all the age groups. Nevertheless, there were a number of strong
performances, starting with Doug Kelley, who was comfortably in the first 100 from a top class men’s field of over 350 runners. In addition, a number of the junior athletes were in the top third of their races, namely, Charlotte Peach, Linton Taylor and Oliver Carrington, a notable achievement at this level of competition.
