Newark's young athletes managed exciting wins for both the under 11 and under 15 girls as well as third place overall at the latest meeting in the series of indoor athletics. Thirty four athletes propelled the Club to such a prominent position and with one meeting to go it is very close between Newark and Worksop as regards who will finish runner up to Notts.

A fabulous turn out of thirteen under 11 girls helped secure victory in their age group. Keating Walters was a winner again, this time with 1.88m in the standing long jump and she was also part of the victorious 4 x 1 lap relay team (55.3 secs) with Eden Sandy and twins Charlotte and Molly Ripley. Molly also managed a second place in the 1 lap sprint (13.7 secs) while Olivia Mathias showed her renowned stamina to good effect when grabbing the same position in the 3 lap race in 43.8 secs. With superb support from the likes of Millie Hill, Eleanor Miller, Asia Moody, Chantelle Haywood, Olivia Wightman, Ella Wilson and sisters Georgia and Hannah Sheldon, it was no wonder at all that Newark triumphed.

The under 11 boys were also fantastically strong with nine athletes and finished just two points behind winners Sutton. Ben Lynch leapt to two second places - 1.82m in the standing long jump and 38 cm in the vertical high jump - while Jack Satterley managed third in the chest push (5.95m) and Oliver Whaley fourth in the 3 lap (45.0 secs). Ben, Jack and Oliver were then joined by James Lepley to speed to a win in the 4 x 1 lap relay. Jack Skiba produced the best guest performances on the day from all the Clubs in both the 1 lap race (14.2 secs) and 3 lap (44.4 secs). Further excellent supporting performances came from Lewis Hill and promising debutants Adam Brooks, Jake Ludlam and Sam Partridge.

For the under 13 girls Charlotte Peach again had an excellent meeting with the highlight being a third placed 60.4 secs for the 4 lap race. Tyler Ludlam deserves a special mention for his performance in the same gruelling event for the under 13 boys – he agreed to step in to run the race at the last minute and secured a very useful and gutsy fourth place in 71.5 secs. His colleague Henry Ellis flew to third place in the 2 lap race in 27.1 secs and Thomas Hubbard sprang to fifth in the vertical high jump (28cm).

The under 15 girls have dominated their category this season, and matters were no different this time. There were wins for Amy Scott in both the 2 lap race (25.0 secs) and standing long jump (2.28m) and a further victory for Emma Jessop in the 4 lap race (54.3 secs). Heather Barnes had the longest shot put of the day with 8.36m and then ran with Amy, Lauren Rowberry and Eloise McQuaid to annihilate the opposition in the 4 x 2 lap relay (1.41.6 secs). Bethany Scotney and Eleanor Ripley were the terrific other under 15 girls featured. Peter Carrington may have been the sole under 15 boy but he did not let that stop him performing as well as ever with second place in the 2 lap race (24.3 secs) and third places in both the speed bounce (82 jumps) and standing long jump (2.24m).

The under 13 and under 15 regional competition is to be held in Grantham on January 31 and Nottinghamshire have selected no less than nine Newark athletes as part of their teams – under 13s Edward Booth, Henry Ellis and Charlotte Peach along with under 15s Heather Barnes, Peter Carrington, Emma Jessop, John Jessop, Eloise McQuaid and Amy Scott. Very well done to all of them.
