Newark AC senior women picked up team bronze medals at the Nottinghamshire County cross country championships to round off an excellent day for Newark AC. The meeting started well Chris Ward
picking up a bronze medal in the under 11 boys race, still in contention for the win right up until the final hill. In senior women’s race, the first two were well clear from the start, but Rachel McCuaig fought hard at the front of the bunch, holding third position for much of the race. In the end, she finished just outside the overall medals in fourth, but won her age group and was selected for
the Notts team at the inter-counties match. Also selected for the team was Oli Carrington, with a well judged race seeing him finish fifth in the under 17 age group. No doubt he will be vying for the win next year as this is only his first season at under 17 level. Charlotte Peach built on her excellent run last weekend with eighth place in the under 13 girls, just missing out on automatic county selection, but she has definitely staked a claim for one of the two remaining discretionary spots.
The rescheduling of the championship has without doubt made it a busy weekend for the club, as on Sunday the senior athletes are in action in the East Midlands league, whilst the juniors are at the mini league.
