The 2009 Boxing Day handicap morphed into a New Year’s Day race with the course being unrunnable on the traditional date. James Wright was well clear as the winner, but it was close for the other two prizes with Oli Carrington narrowly beating Nathan Johnson-Bark, who both overtook Paul Reed with only fifty metres to go. Overall the handicapping proved to be fairly accurate, with 21 of the 24 competitors finishing within two minutes of each other.
