Notts Summer Road Running League match 3
Full results can be found on the 2009 fixtures & results page
Newark athletes showed resolve and determination in the third round of the Notts summer road league, despite team numbers being slightly down on the first two races. The heavy downpour of rain that was threatened just before the start never materialised, but, although it was relatively cool, the humid conditions and rolling hills of the five and half miles course, not to mention having to negotiate a set of roadworks twice and deal with the frustration of motorists, provided a testing evening of racing.
Fresh from her club record breaking marathon performance, Rachel McCuaig achieved her best ever finishing position in the league with third place, almost beating the whole men’s team in the process. Becky Taylor was second scorer with a strong run on her seasonal league debut. Rachel is now third overall and second in her age group, in both cases just two points from the lead. Kate Else is also second overall in her age group and again just two points off the lead. The team consolidated their fourth overall position.
Alexander Combie was the first man home, closely followed by Ian McCuaig, and with Carl Braithwaite finishing in 92nd, it was the first time this season Newark has had three in the top 100. Further down the pack, Gareth Bagguley improved by over fifty places from the first two rounds, making it comfortably into the top 200.
