Midlands Cross Country Champs
Newark AC athletes were in action at the Midlands XC Championships on a bitter cold day (for the team management) on Saturday 29th January. The course was challenging – muddy and hilly. One parent described it as “a real cross country course”.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the muddy ditch but there was a knack to negotiating it – some got the hang of it (Tyler) and some didn’t (Jon)!
Olivia Mathias lead the U/13 girls team home with a superb 8th place and was followed by the Ripley Twins both running strongly – Charlotte in 57th and Molly in 72nd. They were ably backed up by Aisha Moody in 87th and Eden Sandy in 110th. The team finished 12th.
The U/13 boy’s team also ran well to finish in 12th place. Jack Fenton was 47th, Lewis Hill 51st, Tyler Ludlam 87th and Thomas Hubbard 92nd
Charlotte Peach had yet another splendid run to finish in 23rd place in the U/15 girls race and was followed home by Eleanor Ripley in 49th place.
The only U/17 girl from the club was Chloe Hubbard who finished well in 35th place.
Linton Taylor finished 55th in the U/17 boys race (in his first year in the age group) and Daniel Barrie rang strongly to finish 63rd.
Sadly there were just 2 senior runners taking part in the championships with Rob Orgill (251st) and Jon Compton (255th) surviving the senior men’s race.
